Pakistan
Project Information
TRI’s project in Pakistan is dedicated to the restoration and sustainable management of chilgoza pine forests in the Hindukush-Karakoram-Himalaya region. These forests are not only critical for local biodiversity, including endangered species like the snow leopard, but also provide essential resources for local communities, particularly the valuable chilgoza nuts. The project focuses on promoting sustainable harvesting practices for chilgoza nuts, which are a significant source of income for local communities. By establishing forest protection committees and promoting natural regeneration techniques, the project aims to combat forest degradation and ensure the long-term sustainability of these vital ecosystems. In addition to ecological restoration, the project supports the development of value-added products from chilgoza nuts, enhancing the economic benefits for local communities. The project also includes a strong focus on community engagement and capacity-building, ensuring that local stakeholders are actively involved in forest management and conservation efforts. Through these efforts, the project contributes to broader regional and national conservation goals, while also supporting the livelihoods of local communities.
