Project Information
TRI’s initiative in China is centered on enhancing the ecological health and management of state-owned forest farms (SFFs), which cover approximately 77 million hectares across the country. These SFFs play a crucial role in providing ecosystem services such as clean water, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation. The project is piloting new forest management approaches at three sites, involving seven SFFs, to address challenges such as soil degradation, forest fragmentation, and declining biodiversity. The lessons learned from these pilots will be used to revise and improve management plans across the entire network of SFFs, with the goal of scaling up successful practices nationwide. By improving forest management, the project aims to enhance the resilience of these ecosystems, ensuring that they continue to provide essential services while supporting sustainable rural development.
